U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito has announced that two local projects will be funded by the U.S. Department of Labor. Senator Capito herself requested these funds. The first project is intended to support a youth employment program in Charleston, while the second aims to enhance a workforce development initiative.

The senator found out about these necessary projects from the local community. She is dedicated to helping West Virginia residents secure quality jobs, including youth and those struggling with or recovering from addiction. The projects are also designed to benefit local businesses.

In terms of the funding specifics, the West Virginia Region 4 Planning and Development Council is set to receive $750,000. This money will be used to expand their greenhouse crop production and landscape design training program. This initiative is specifically aimed at individuals in recovery. The produce grown will be distributed to various Fruits of Labor locations, supporting local food initiatives and providing fresh produce to those who need it. Fruits of Labor also utilizes this project to aid in addiction prevention among young people.

The City of Charleston will be granted $180,000. These funds will be utilized to support youth by providing valuable work experience during the summer and helping them explore potential career paths. This will also be beneficial for small businesses. The program was previously halted but has been revived with improvements and expansions under the current mayor of Charleston, Amy Goodwin.
