West Virginia’s top Republican leaders praised former President Donald Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress, highlighting his commitment to American energy, national security, and economic growth.

U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of Senate Republican leadership, called Trump’s speech a “refreshing change” and lauded his priorities, which she said resonate strongly with West Virginians.

“President Trump’s address was a refreshing change from the previous four years,” Capito said. “As expected, he delivered a strong and optimistic vision for our country—one that prioritizes securing our border, unleashing American energy, strengthening our military, and providing much-needed tax relief for hardworking families. These are issues that matter to West Virginians, and it is exactly why the majority of voters across our country and in West Virginia overwhelmingly supported the president.”

Capito emphasized the role of West Virginia’s energy sector in Trump’s vision for economic revitalization.

“I was encouraged by President Trump’s focus on unleashing domestic energy production—particularly in states like West Virginia, where coal, natural gas, and manufacturing play a critical role in powering America,” she said. “We are off to a strong start already, but I know our brightest days are ahead.”

Senator Jim Justice, R-W.Va., echoed Capito’s sentiments, describing Trump’s address as a message of revival for the nation.

“President Trump brought a message of hope for the American people, and with it comes the restoration of the American Dream,” Justice said. “President Trump outlined his vision for an America that is once again the envy of the world, and that vision runs right through West Virginia. West Virginia is poised to be the state that powers our country forward, and I couldn’t be prouder to stand with President Trump as we usher America into a New Golden Age.”

Congressman Riley M. Moore, R-W.Va., also voiced strong support for Trump’s agenda, citing key policy wins under the former president’s leadership.

“It was a true honor to attend President Trump’s historic joint address in the People’s House — and President Trump delivered!” Moore said. “It’s clear that the ‘commonsense revolution’ has already begun, and it’s producing major wins for the American people. Under President Trump’s leadership, America’s interests reign supreme. We’ve secured the border and are unleashing American energy like never before. We’ve slashed regulations and are rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse.”

Moore also applauded Trump’s stance on cultural issues, stating, “We’re eliminating DEI, protecting women’s sports, and ensuring radical transgender ideology is rooted out of our education system. We’re making America healthy again.”

Moore expressed optimism for the future, saying, “The future is indeed bright, but so much still has yet to be done. Under President Trump, we are ushering in a new golden age for America, and I’m proud to be fighting for it in Congress.”

Additionally, Moore noted that he had hosted Bishop Robert Barron of Word on Fire as his guest for the address

“It was also an honor to host Bishop Robert Barron as my guest of honor this evening, and I can’t thank him enough for celebrating a private Mass earlier today for lawmakers here on the Capitol grounds,” he said.
