West Virginia’s elected officials celebrated President Donald Trump’s return to the White House on Monday.

In statements and messages, officials signaled their support for the new administration and anticipated the benefits of a cooperative relationship between the White House and the Mountain State.

Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., issued a statement congratulating “President Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance and the entire incoming administration.”

“This Inauguration Day, we do not just celebrate, but we reaffirm the values that have made our country great,” Capito said.

“As we usher in the new Trump administration, we are reminded that the foundation of this country is rooted in the timeless principle of government of, by and for the people.

“Today, that message rings a little bit louder in every corner of our great nation. So once again, congratulations to the incoming administration. I’m excited to work together to make our country the shining example of freedom and prosperity it was always meant to be,” Capito said.

Gov. Patrick Morrisey and First Lady Denise Morrisey traveled to Washington for the inauguration and attended the America First Inaugural Ball on Sunday.

“Today, I join all West Virginians who are excited for this new golden era of American leadership, and I look forward to working with President Trump to build a bright and prosperous future for our state and nation,” the governor said in a statement.

In his inauguration address last week, Morrisey said his administration will work closely with Trump’s.

“If ever there was an honorary West Virginian, it should be Donald Trump,” he said.

Sen. Jim Justice also shared his thoughts on social media.

“Let us pray for President Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance as they lead America and start their service,” he said. “May God put a hedge of protection around them and their families. It’s an exciting day for America!”

“Americans are ready for Trump’s return to the White House,” said Rep. Carol Miller, R-W.Va. “He is a strong leader who will put our country and its people first. Under his presidency, America will be great again.”

Rep. Riley Moore, R-W.Va., posted a selfie taken in the Capitol Rotunda during Monday’s ceremonies.

“It’s a new day in America,” Moore said. “Today’s inaugural ceremony was incredibly moving – I left truly inspired. The inauguration of President Trump as our 47th Commander in Chief ushers in a new era, what I believe will be a Golden Age for America, her people and our way of life.”
