U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced on Thursday resources from several federal agencies that will support initiatives across the state, including health care, education, environmental cleanup, infrastructure, economic development, and drug prevention projects in West Virginia.

Area projects benefiting from the funding include:

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services funding:

• $4,737,497 in HHS Head Start Program funding to Community Action of South Eastern West Virginia, Inc. in Bluefield.

• $1,360,810 in HHS Head Start Program funding to the Greenbrier County Board of Education in Lewisburg.

Drug Free Community (DFC) grants from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) for West Virginia communities:

• $125,000 in ONDCP DFC grant funding to the McDowell County Commission on Aging, Inc., in Welch.

• $125,000 in ONDCP DFC grant funding to Southern Highlands Community Mental Health Center in Matheny.

• $125,000 in ONDCP DFC grant funding to Fayette County Family Resource Network, Inc. in Fayetteville.

• $125,000 in ONDCP DFC grant funding to Community Connections, Inc., in Princeton.
