The city of Weirton has been experiencing a water crisis, leaving businesses and residents without water for an extended period of time.
We spoke to Senator Shelley Moore Capito about the issue.
Local officials say there are multiple line breaks because of the recent stretch of freezing weather, which prevents them from pumping and filling the Weirton Heights tanks.
Customers impacted include Weirton Heights, Marlin Heights, downtown, and other areas of the city.
West Virginia Senator Shelley Moore Capito has worked to receive grants to improve Weirton’s water system in the past and says she’s following up with the city on a federal level.
We’re in touch with them, and we obviously have oversight over water and wastewater, but I’m not sure what we can do in the short term; in the long term, we can make sure that we have a modernized system that works, not just one day, but every day.”

The board believes the water supply and water issues won’t be fully resolved until February 10; in the meantime, they’re providing free water bottles and non-potable water to those without water service.
You can get up to 5 gallons daily from 3 to 6 p.m. at the County Road Fire Station at 1500 County Road.
You will need to bring your own containers.
