The Wheeling Artisan Center unveiled its recent renovations and new location on Tuesday.

Originally located on the second floor of 1400 Main Street, the gift shop has moved to the first floor to be more accessible to the public.

The center now welcomes four businesses to its open space from various industries.

Those include Forefront Technology Incorporation, a Cleveland-based company, and Prodigal Daughter Treasures, plus Trinkets from Steubenville.

"I think anytime you shine up a penny, you know, it just looks better, and I think it's so much needed and Wheeling is doing that all over. There's more things to come. It's so exciting," said Scott Schenerlein, executive director, Wheeling Heritage.

In addition to $750,000 in ARPA funds provided by the city of Wheeling, the renovations were made possible through Congressionally directed spending, secured by U.S. Senator and Glen Dale native Shelley Moore-Capito.

"Wheeling is a gateway city. Obviously, lots of activity here when the United States was developing and moving out west,” Capito said. “People stopped in Wheeling, and this was one of the mainstays. Lots of industry, lots of growth, lots of wealth, and I think you can see it in the city and now, it's reviving and it's regenerating."
