WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will award $600,000 to the Prestera Center for Mental Health Services, Inc. This funding will support this organization’s effort to expand comprehensive health services for children and families impacted by substance abuse.
“It is a heartbreaking fact that substance abuse negatively impacts entire families, including innocent children and infants. We need to act so that we don’t lose a generation to the opioid crisis,” Senator Capito said. “This funding will provide wraparound services for children and families impacted by substance abuse in Cabell, Lincoln and Wayne counties, improving their future well-being. I will continue to fight for programs that help the victims of substance abuse access the care they need.”
“This funding is exactly what our youth and families of West Virginia need,” Senator Manchin said. “Fighting the opioid epidemic in our great state has been one of my top priorities, and this funding will ensure that those families and children impacted receive the necessary treatment. I am honored to have been awarded the 2017 Michael Prestera Award of Excellence and will remain committed to fighting against substance abuse and expand healthcare services across our state.”
