WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today announced more than $6 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for three West Virginia airport infrastructure projects. These funds are awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program, which provides funding to public agencies for the planning and development of public airports.

“Investment in West Virginia’s airports, roads and bridges is critically important to moving our state forward,” said Senator Capito. “As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, funding the Airport Improvement Program was one of my major priorities. I am glad that West Virginia’s regional airports will receive a piece of this funding in order to advance projects that will give our state and local economies a boost.”

“Investing in our infrastructure, whether that is through improving our airport runways or fixing our roads and bridges in need of repair, is one of the best ways to create good jobs and build a strong foundation for future economic growth,” Senator Manchin said. “With these grants, the Greenbrier County Airport, Mason County Airport and Wood County Airport will be able to make critical infrastructure improvements that will ensure the safety of our residents and travelers and boost economic development.”

Individual award amounts are listed below:

  • $2,773,565 – Grant awarded to the Wood County Airport Authority will fund apron and taxiway rehabilitation at the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport in Parkersburg.
  • $2,546,117 – Grant awarded to the Greenbrier County Airport Authority will fund taxiway construction and apron rehabilitations at the Greenbrier Valley Airport in Lewisburg.
