WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) announced $614,582 in federal funding for improvements at Grant County Airport in Petersburg. The funding will be used to upgrade the runway lighting system to ensure the safety of operations during low visibility conditions.
“Investing in West Virginia’s airport infrastructure is critical to the safety of our pilots, passengers and the local community who benefit from the services provided by the Grant County Airport,” Senator Manchin said. “This funding will be used to make improvements that will prevent avoidable accidents and injuries, while also laying the foundation for economic growth and prosperity. I am pleased that these funds will help ensure our airports and runways remain safe for all West Virginians and our visitors."
“Addressing our country's crumbling infrastructure is an area that can bridge the partisan divide and further economic growth,” said Senator Capito. “West Virginians rely on our airports and other transportation systems to access hard to reach areas in the state and to transport necessary goods and services. The repairs at Grant County Airport made possible through this grant will enhance safety for West Virginians and visitors traveling to and from the Mountain State.”
The funding was awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
