WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) announced today that the Shepherdstown Volunteer Fire Department, Hooverston Heights Volunteer Fire Department, Cora Volunteer Fire Department and Verdunville Volunteer Fire Department will receive funding to enhance fire prevention and safety operations through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) and Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) Programs.

“Every day West Virginia firefighters, including many volunteers, dedicate their lives to keeping our communities safe,” said Senator Capito. “This funding will provide local fire departments throughout the state with the means necessary to purchase safety equipment that will enable our first responders to properly act during emergency situations.”

“My experience working with the volunteer rescue squad in Marion County allowed me to witness first-hand the incredibly honorable hard work and commitment first responders demonstrate day in and day out,” Senator Manchin said. “It is so important that we provide our local fire departments with the essential resources to keep our communities safe. With these grants, our fire departments will have access to state-of-the-art protection and rescue equipment needed to respond to all types of emergencies.”
