WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today announced a total of $268,176 to Marshall University from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to support the Graduate Psychology Education Program. This grant will allow the university to support Doctorate of Psychology students as they obtain training in rural communities in West Virginia.
“West Virginia’s universities are making significant contributions to medical research, and Marshall University has consistently proven to be a leader in this area,” said Senator Capito. “By providing fourth year psychology students-in-training the opportunity to deliver behavioral health services to underserved communities, and using remaining funds to help combat substance abuse and homelessness in Cabell County, this grant will provide students with valuable experience and benefit the local community.”
“Making sure West Virginia families have access to quality medical services is so important,” Senator Manchin said. “And that begins with preparing the next generation of mental health professionals. This grant will provide Marshall University’s graduate Psychology Education Program the necessary resources to support students as they begin hands on training in rural and underserved parts of West Virginia. This is wonderful news for the university, for Cabell County and for all of the West Virginia communities the program serves.”
