WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee, today announced $20,000,000 through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Better Utilizing Investment to Leverage Development (BUILD) Grants. Funding will support the West Virginia Department of Transportation with widening over three miles of Interstate 64, including the Nitro-St. Albans bridge.
“Commuters along I-64 know how congested the Nitro-St. Albans bridge section is every morning and evening. Modern surface transportation infrastructure is essential to our state’s economy and the safety of our communities,” Senator Capito said. “As chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee, I have worked with the West Virginia Division of Highways to prioritize projects important to our state, and I wrote to Secretary Chao in July to highlight the importance of this project.”
As a result of Senator Capito’s efforts, West Virginia has received a total of $60 million in BUILD grants.
