WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), chairman of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, today announced $3,121,575 for several West Virginia fire departments through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Funding comes through FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) and Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) programs and will assist fire departments with hiring firefighters and the purchase of equipment.
“Every day across West Virginia, our communities’ firefighters put their lives on the line to keep their neighbors safe,” Senator Capito said. “From responding to fires to serving as first responders during a medical emergency, these professionals and volunteers are on the front lines of public service. This funding will give them the resources they deserve, helping them to do their jobs safely and effectively. As chairman of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, I will continue working to ensure our first responders have the tools they need to keep West Virginians safe.”
