CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that Potomac State College (PSC) will receive $92,000 to purchase equipment and supplies for the college's Sustainable Agriculture Entrepreneurship (SAGE) Innovation Lab. This funding was made available through a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) requests made by Senator Capito.
In total, Senator Capito secured $241,135,000 in direct spending measures for initiatives and projects across West Virginia through the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 appropriations omnibus package.
“Preparing our students for success and giving them the tools needed to make a difference in our state, country, and world is made possible in part by investing in our higher education institutions. This funding announced today will be used to improve the quality of education available to future PSC students through the SAGE Innovation Lab, and help students make an impact in our agricultural sector. The students and faculty within the SAGE Innovation Lab do fantastic work, and I’m proud to use my role on the Senate Appropriations Committee to secure the funding they need to make sure that tradition of success continues,” Senator Capito said.
“We’re excited to be presented with funding that will allow us to expand our Sustainable Agriculture Entrepreneurship (SAGE) Innovation Lab with new technologies and equipment that will support our students in a hands-on, project-based learning environment,” WVU Potomac State College Interim President Chris Gilmer said. “We plan to create an environment that allows students to work in interdisciplinary teams to develop new innovations using an entrepreneurial framework. We want to see engineering majors working with agriculture and business students to develop products and processes that will serve to strengthen our local economy and improve our workforce. Dave Miller, program coordinator of the SAGE Innovation Lab, is eager to work with faculty and student organizations to develop curriculum and programs that link together people from different backgrounds and skill sets. Developing the abilities to learn and adapt will be the driving forces behind the pursuits of the SAGE Innovation Lab.”
