CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, today announced that the West Virginia Emergency Management Division (WVEMD) will receive $1,663,000 to help supply alternate power to facilities and plants in West Virginia. Specifically, the funding will be used to improve their reliability, particularly during emergencies, alleviate the need for crisis response, and improve public health and safety. This funding was made available through two Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) requests made by Senator Capito.

In total, Senator Capito secured $241,135,000 in direct spending measures for initiatives and projects across West Virginia through the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 appropriations omnibus package.

“Making sure that our state is prepared during emergency situations has always been a priority,” Ranking Member Capito said. “My leadership role on the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, which oversees funding for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), places me in a unique position to advocate for funding that supports those efforts. I’m proud to help secure this critical funding through the Congressionally Directed Spending process, which will strengthen our Emergency Management Division, as well as our state’s ability to respond in challenging circumstances.”

“The WVEMD extends our appreciation to Senator Capito and her staff for their commitment to improving West Virginia’s ability to face and withstand disasters now and into the future,” G.E. McCabe, Director of the West Virginia Emergency Management Division, said.
