CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that Thomas Health System will receive $5,995,000 to install new imaging equipment at Thomas Memorial Hospital, the Ashton Clinic, and St. Francis Hospital, and to modernize the Cancer Infusion Center at Thomas Memorial Hospital. This funding was made available through two Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) requests made by Senator Capito.

In total, Senator Capito secured $241,135,000 in direct spending measures for initiatives and projects across West Virginia through the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 appropriations omnibus package.

“Thomas Health System provides critical, life-saving services to the residents of Kanawha County and beyond. I’m proud to secure this funding through the Congressionally Directed Spending process, which will help provide needed updates to their Cancer Infusion Center for patients who receive infusion therapy as part of their treatment, and to their imaging equipment to upgrade the services available to patients. Throughout the process, Thomas Health conveyed to me the importance of these projects to the hospital system. I will continue to use my role on the Senate Appropriations Committee to provide our medical facilities with the tools they need to serve their patients to the absolute best of their ability,” Senator Capito said.

“I deeply appreciate Senator Capito’s efforts in securing these critical resources for our two hospitals, and I am very grateful for her advocacy and support,” Albert L. Wright, Jr., President and CEO of WVU Health System and Interim-President and CEO of Thomas Health System, said. “These funds will be crucial in helping expand our services at Thomas Health to care for the people of southern West Virginia.”
