CHARLESTON, W.Va. — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies, today announced a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) award from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to develop the first National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) in West Virginia at Mountwest Community and Technical College (MCTC). This award was secured through a CDS request made by Senator Capito.

“The challenges and opportunities in the world of cybersecurity are changing constantly. It is important that our workforce in West Virginia is prepared to meet our cybersecurity needs and protect our digital infrastructure. I was proud to secure support that aids this mission at MCTC and their goal of becoming the first NCAE-C in West Virginia. As the Ranking Member of the Labor-H Appropriations Subcommittee, I will continue working to secure resources like these that help put West Virginians on a path of success,” Senator Capito said

Individual award listed below:

  • $850,000 for Mountwest Community and Technical College (MCTC) (Cabell, W.Va.) to support development of a program that recruits and teaches students for degrees in cybersecurity and IT with the goal of being the first NCAE-C in West Virginia.
