CHARLESTON, W.Va. — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced nine Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) awards from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to help communities and entities across West Virginia support local law enforcement offices and courthouses. Specifically, this funding will support security and training projects, new equipment, and the addition of staff. These awards were secured through CDS requests made by Senator Capito.

“Supporting law enforcement and equipping our justice centers with the best tools possible is a crucial aspect of keeping West Virginia’s officers, judicial staff, and communities safe. I am happy to have secured funding that our local communities need to help our brave law enforcement officers as they protect and serve West Virginians. I will continue working through my role on the Senate Appropriations Committee to ensure our West Virginia communities receive the resources needed to help keep them safe and help them grow,” Senator Capito said. 

Individual award details listed below:

  • $1,500,000 for Marshall University (Huntington, W.Va.) for forensic science training and services.
  • $950,000 for the City of Elkins, W.Va. for law enforcement technology upgrades.
  • $692,000 for the City of Huntington, W.Va. for a community engagement and officer training initiative. This request was made solely by Senator Capito.
  • $565,000 for the Hancock County Commission (New Cumberland, W.Va.) for law enforcement technology upgrades.
  • $250,000 for the Hancock County Commission (New Cumberland, W.Va.) for a courthouse security project.
  • $123,000 in funding for the McDowell County Commission (Welch, W.Va.) for the acquisition of patrol vehicles. This request was made solely by Senator Capito.
  • $81,000 for the West Virginia Department of Agriculture (Charleston, W.Va.) for a law enforcement liaison.
  • $66,000 for the City of Mannington, W.Va. for law enforcement technology upgrades.
  • $54,000 for the Region 4 Planning and Development Council (Summersville, W.Va.) for a Community district ranger department police cruiser.
