WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS), today announced funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to Burlington United Methodist Family Services and Marshall University’s Center for Foster Care Excellence. This funding, which was secured through two Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) requests made by Senator Capito, will be used to help improve child care, foster care, and family services using evidence-based practices to meet the needs facing children and families West Virginia.
“West Virginia children are the future of our state and deserve every opportunity to succeed in life. By using proven methods to help improve the outcomes that so many families in our state face, this funding will invest in strong family foundations,” Ranking Member Capito said. “These resources can also help open new doors for minors – especially those in foster care – by using a data-driven, individualized approach to ensure children have the support systems they need as they become young adults. I am proud to have secured this funding through my role on the Labor-HHS Appropriations Subcommittee and I look forward to continue investing in children and families in our state.”
