CHARLESTON, W.Va. — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the West Virginia Department of Agriculture will receive $798,894 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS). The funding, which was made possible through The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), will be used to help both the Facing Hunger Food Bank in Huntington, W.Va. and the Mountaineer Food Bank in Gassaway, W.Va., address gaps in emergency food system coverage.
“Unexpected emergencies can be devastating for individuals and families across West Virginia, and in times of need, it’s important to have an outlet to put food on the table,” Senator Capito said. “This critical funding from USDA will help ensure that food banks, like those in Gassaway and Huntington, are able to support West Virginians when they fall on hard times.”
