WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced a $424,571 in grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). The funding will be used to aggregate and digitally preserve thousands of congressional archives at the Robert C. Byrd Center for History Education at West Virginia University (WVU), and support long-term interpretative programs at historic sites relating to the Mine Wars Museum.
“The funding announced today from the NEH will help preserve West Virginia and America’s history for generations to come,” Senator Capito said. “The project to digitize records at WVU will preserve primary documents for future researchers to access, while the funding for the Mine Wars Museum will ensure that the historic sites have engaging exhibits to teach our state’s history to future visitors. I thank NEH for their continued investments in West Virginia, and I look forward to seeing the benefits of this funding.”
