WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee and the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $599,999 in funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to West Virginia University (WVU) for research that seeks to integrate and retain more college students in the STEM fields.

“Ensuring students have the bedrock knowledge, skills, and a path to success in the STEM fields is critical to attracting and retaining our students and future workers. This has been a major priority for me, and the motivation behind launching my Women in STEM Caucus in the U.S. Senate. WVU’s history as a research university, especially in the STEM fields, makes it an excellent candidate for this research project and I look forward to seeing the future impact it will make,” Senator Capito said.
