CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today announced the release of $106,494,000 in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to the state of West Virginia to support long-term flood recovery and mitigation efforts. As a leader on the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Capito helped secure the funding in the bipartisan 2018 budget agreement, but it had not previously been made available to the state.

“Our state is still working to recover from the devastating floods that impacted Southern West Virginia three years ago and also focusing on ways to avoid a similar tragedy in the future,” Senator Capito said. “At the federal level, I’ve fought hard to secure funds to give our state the flexibility to determine the best way to do that, and as a subcommittee chair on the Appropriations Committee, I’ve been successful in securing those resources. With today’s announcement, we can now move forward with both the recovery and mitigation process, and it’s important that we plan and use these critical dollars diligently, deliberately, and in a way that will most effectively protect us in the future.”
