WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), co-chairs of the Girl Scouts’ Honorary Troop Capitol Hill, today re-introduced a resolution to recognize the 110th birthday of the Girl Scouts of America and celebrate its historic legacy of empowering girls and building powerful female leaders across the country.
“I know from my own experience how the Girl Scouts instill core values and confidence in young women,” Senator Capito said. “For 110 years now, the Girl Scouts have been encouraging girls to grow into strong leaders in whatever field they choose. There’s no doubt many women across the country today, including myself, still carry those lessons with them, and I’m proud to help commemorate this incredible milestone with Senator Duckworth.”
“I still use the leadership skills that I developed in the Girl Scouts as a young woman every day,” Senator Duckworth said. “For 110 years, Girl Scouts have instilled the values of service and how to always ‘be prepared’ in generations of girls, empowering them to lead wherever they go—in business, science, public service and beyond. I’m proud to re-introduce this bipartisan resolution with Senator Capito to commemorate and honor this historic organization.”
The bipartisan Capito-Duckworth resolution also recognizes and congratulates the Girl Scouts who earned the Gold Award in 2021.
