WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) questioned Wilbur Ross, the nominee for commerce secretary, during today’s nomination hearing in the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee. Senator Capito focused her questions on the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s investment in rural areas, economic development and broadband access.

Senator Capito issued the following statement regarding today’s hearing:

“The digital divide between rural and urban America is growing as essential broadband infrastructure falls behind in certain parts of the country. I am glad that Mr. Ross has experience with broadband deployment, and I’m very pleased that he has agreed to work with me to expand this critical resource in West Virginia and rural areas around the country.

“After meeting with Mr. Ross in my office last week where we covered many important West Virginia issues, and hearing more today about his commitment to helping distressed communities, I look forward to voting for his confirmation.”
