CHARLESTON, W.Va. — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced a total of $10,953,774 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), to support various projects throughout West Virginia.
HHS FUNDING: Senator Capito secured $9,610,267 in funding from HHS to support a variety of health improvement projects and research at West Virginia University (WVU).
“I’m happy to see critical resources from HHS making their way to West Virginia to help support efforts that continue important research at WVU, addressing substance use, strengthening mental health programs, supporting nurse practitioner programs, and preventing underage drinking,” Senator Capito said.
NSF AND NIST RESEARCH FUNDING: Senator Capito secured $901,548 in funding for several research projects at higher education institutions in West Virginia from NSF and NIST.
“I’m happy to see West Virginia’s higher education institutions continuing to prove that we have some of our country’s best research universities,” Senator Capito said. “This funding from NSF and NIST will help enhance our nation’s body of knowledge and help us innovate for the future at WVU, Concord University, and Marshall University.”
ARC FUNDING: Senator Capito, Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, announced two grants totaling $441,959 for the Mountain State Educational Services Cooperative and The Wild Ramp through the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC).
“The funding announced for the Mountain State Educational Services Cooperative will help strengthen the education, training, and development of West Virginia’s future workforce,” Ranking Member Capito said. “I’m also excited that The Wild Ramp in Huntington, which supports local farmers and consumers, is receiving grant funding. The EPW Committee works closely with the ARC to support proven entities that serve local communities, and I’m thrilled to help continue investing in West Virginia through both of these organizations.”
