WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), both members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $106,770 from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for the West Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The funding will support the purchase of 45 skills testing tablets and 25 deaf and hard of hearing communication devices for each West Virginia regional office to allow DMV staff to better communicate with those deaf and hard of hearing.
“Our DMV provides services that are important to our everyday lives, which is why it’s critical the department receives the support they need to be as effective as possible,” Senator Capito said. “This funding will help streamline skill testing services, particularly for those who are hard of hearing or deaf. I am pleased to see West Virginia receive funding that will help strengthen the quality of service from our regional DMV offices, and I will continue to advocate for similar resources in the future.”
“The West Virginia DMV provides critical services for West Virginians in every corner of our great state, and I am pleased DOT is investing in new skills testing tablets and deaf and hard of hearing communication devices for each regional office,” Senator Manchin said. “The new technology will improve efficiency and expand access for all West Virginians visiting their local DMV. I look forward to seeing the positive impacts of this funding, and as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for resources to support transportation services across the Mountain State.”
