WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), both members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $1,868,053 for the Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This funding will reimburse costs CAMC accrued from the purchase of personal protective equipment and disinfecting supplies used for the care and treatment of patients with COVID-19. This funding builds off the $3,504,837 Senators Capito and Manchin announced for CAMC last December.
“Our medical professionals at CAMC sprang into action at the beginning of the pandemic to treat those who were infected and help stop the spread of COVID-19 in our communities. There is no doubt that their actions helped save the lives of so many West Virginians,” Ranking Member Capito said. “I’m pleased that CAMC is continuing to receive this support, and I will continue to use my role as the top Republican on the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee to advocate for the medical professionals in West Virginia that were on the frontline of our pandemic response.”
“The COVID-19 pandemic has tested every West Virginian, especially our healthcare workers and first responders who have gone above and beyond throughout the crisis to keep our fellow West Virginians safe. I am pleased CAMC is receiving $1.8 million in reimbursements from FEMA for personal protective equipment and disinfecting supplies used during the pandemic. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for funding to ensure our frontline workers and healthcare professionals continue to be properly equipped for any emergency,” Senator Manchin said.
