CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and Joe Manchin (D-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $2,144,602 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office of Community Planning and Development (CPD) for community development projects in Parkersburg and Charleston.

“It is such great news that HUD is continuing their commitment to West Virginia by providing funding to help further develop communities in our state. These grants will provide support to our communities by creating innovative approaches that lead to stable housing, suitable living environments, and expand economic opportunities. HUD has been a steadfast partner to our state, and I look forward to continuing our work together—and with other federal agencies—to ensure West Virginians have the resources they need to get through this difficult time,” said Senator Capito.

“I firmly believe that every West Virginian should have a roof over their head and a warm place to sleep. Many West Virginians aren’t sure they’ll be able to pay their rent, and the COVID-19 pandemic has shone a light on this issue. In West Virginia alone we have over 10,000 children who are currently experiencing homelessness and the pandemic is making this heartbreaking issue worse. This funding will help West Virginia families secure affordable, safe housing in Charleston and Parkersburg through community development projects. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will not stop until every West Virginian, especially our children, have a safe home and a warm bed,” said Senator Manchin.
