WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), both members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $232,643 from the U.S. Department of Commerce National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to West Virginia University (WVU) for a scientific research project and a manufacturing partnership.
“West Virginia University is a proven leader across multiple educational fronts, and time and time again has shown that the research done in Morgantown is on par with that of any higher education institution,” Senator Capito said. “I was proud to secure this funding, which will help support rural manufacturing projects and explore dynamics in semiconductors. As a leader on the Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for the resources our schools need to provide cutting edge opportunities for our students.”
“WVU continues to make our state proud with important research projects and economic partnerships, and I am pleased NIST is investing more than $232K to boost their efforts,” Senator Manchin said. “The funding announced today will support an innovative research opportunity for students and faculty to study semiconductors, as well as bolstering an important manufacturing partnership program. I look forward to seeing the positive impacts of these investments, and as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for resources to support higher education programs across the Mountain State.”
