CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), both members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $3,504,837 for the Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This funding will reimburse costs CAMC accrued from COVID-19 screening, testing, support services, and personal protective equipment purchases.

“At the very beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, CAMC—like many of our hospitals and medical facilities across the state—was tasked with the extremely difficult challenge of providing immediate and emergency services to West Virginians. Our doctors, nurses, and health care professionals have stepped up in a big way throughout this pandemic, and we could not be more thankful for their service. I’m pleased to use my role as Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee to help reimburse the costs of these efforts by CAMC at the onset of the pandemic that undoubtedly saved lives,” Ranking Member Capito said.

“West Virginia hospitals and healthcare providers have provided quality care to our fellow West Virginians throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, all while operating on shoestring budgets. At a time when West Virginia hospitals are yet again reaching critical levels, I’m pleased CAMC is receiving funds to support their tireless efforts to address the pandemic. I will continue to advocate for funds that support our healthcare providers and frontline workers as they care for us,” Senator Manchin said.
