WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), both members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $3,730,475 for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR). This funding, which is through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), will be used to reimburse diagnostic COVID-19 tests and related laboratory work from temporary pop-up sites between July 2020 and January 2022.

“A crucial part of our response to the COVID-19 pandemic was making testing affordable, available, and swift. Pop-up sites provided by DHHR gave our residents access to quick results and created additional security for our most vulnerable populations. I could not be more thankful for the diligence and courage of our medical professionals, volunteers, and lab workers who made these operations possible. West Virginians help each other, and I’m glad to use my role as Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee to help reimburse their efforts,” Ranking Member Capito said.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has tested every American, and in West Virginia we continue to work together to keep our loved ones safe. Our frontline workers have gone above and beyond to care for their fellow West Virginians during the crisis, and I am pleased FEMA is investing in our state to reimburse resources used for testing and operating vaccination clinics. We must ensure our frontline workers and healthcare professionals continue to be properly equipped throughout this crisis,” Senator Manchin said. “As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for funding to assist those on the frontlines and keep West Virginians safe.”
