WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $4,680,990 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for senior services, cancer prevention and control programs, and preventing and managing diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

“It is very encouraging to see this support from HHS coming to West Virginia to support important programs,” said Senator Capito. “This funding will help our state health department better assist our residents in the prevention of diseases like diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and cancer. We must give West Virginians the resources they need to help avert life-threatening diseases like these, and federal support to DHHR is a crucial aspect of that mission. I will continue to advocate for the health services West Virginians need to keep themselves and their loved ones heathy.”

“Access to quality healthcare is critical to the well-being of every West Virginian across the Mountain State, and I applaud HHS for providing these resources to ensure our seniors are taken care of and our prevention programs are supported during this global health crisis that is affecting everyone. I will continue to fight for funding that supports West Virginians’ access to quality healthcare and vital health programs,” said Senator Manchin.
