WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $4,969,520 from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) for five water infrastructure projects across West Virginia.

“Investing in water and wastewater infrastructure supports economic and community development,” Senator Capito said. “Whether down in Wyoming County or up in Canaan Valley, these ARC grants will support public health and encourage growth in our outdoor tourism and recreation industries.”

“I’ve always said every West Virginian deserves clean air to drink and fresh air to breathe, and infrastructure investments are vital to providing this and boosting West Virginia’s economy. The ARC continues to be a strong partner for the Mountain State and these investments to upgrade and improve water infrastructure systems across West Virginia are great news,” Senator Manchin said. “I will continue to work with the ARC to support projects like this and advocate for funding to spur economic growth in West Virginia.”

Individual awards listed below:

  • $1,696,000 – Wilderness Public Service District: Wilderness PSD Water System Extension and Upgrade
    • This project will be matched with $424,000 in local funds and will provide stable and consistent water service to 101 existing businesses and 1,953 households, enable a planned resort to be built that will create 30 jobs and support future economic development in western Nicholas County.
  • $1,500,000 –Wyoming County Commission: Eastern Wyoming Public Service Project Water Treatment Plan Upgrade
    • This funding will be matched with $7,011,500 in state and local funds and this project will result in improved drinking water to 119 businesses and 1,513 households, as well as guarantee a reliable supply of water in the future.
  • $1,000,000 – City of Ripley: Phase II Sewer Project
    • This project will be matched with $21,860,000 in other federal funding, state and local funding. This project will provide reliable wastewater treatment to 309 businesses and 1,941 households, and allow the communities of Evans and Ripley to permit new sewer connections to support economic growth.
  • $748,520 – Mingo County Public Service District: Chattaroy Sewer Extension and Rehabilitation Project
    • This project will be matched with $3,633,110 in other federal funding, state and local funding. This project will provide new service to 5 businesses and 55 households and improved, reliable service to 9 businesses and 270 households, and will also provide the necessary infrastructure for planned and potential development of a 20 acre site.
  • $25,000 – Canaan Valley PSD: Water Treatment Plant Source Water Analysis
    • This project will be matched with $55,000 in state and local funds and will be used to complete a water source analysis in Timberline area of Tucker County and will ultimately ensure the provision of a reliable supply of drinking water to 400 customers.
