WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), both members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that an Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) grant of $61,555 has been awarded to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (WVDHHR) from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The grant will be used to reduce the prevalence of child morbidity and mortality that may occur as a result of acute illness and severe injury.
“Where a child lives should not prevent him or her from having access to lifesaving services,” Senator Capito said. “Those moments between the time emergency personnel are called and the time they arrive are critical for any patient, including children. This funding will help improve access to emergency services, protecting the health and well-being of West Virginia children.”
“Protecting the health and safety of our children is of the utmost importance for all West Virginians,” Senator Manchin said. “This funding will provide additional resources to make sure our children are able to grow into healthy and strong citizens of the Mountain State. I am thankful that this funding has been awarded to West Virginia.”
