CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $66,858,313 in Child Care and Development Block Grants to the state of West Virginia. This funding was made available through the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), and will help address the needs of child care providers and families impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I have heard from countless parents, grandparents, childcare providers, and local organizations about the need to support young West Virginians’ growth and wellbeing during the pandemic. These funds, through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act passed in December, will assist essential workers, support essential childcare providers in reopening their businesses and keeping them open, relieve certain families from burdensome copayments and tuition, and help implement safe practices in-line with COVID-19 protocols. I will continue to fight for the resources we need to get us through the COVID-19 pandemic,” Senator Capito said.
“We must ensure West Virginia working families impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially our essential workers, have access to reliable, affordable child care so they don’t have to choose between caring for their children or going to work. I am pleased the ACF is investing more than $66.8 million in West Virginia to help provide child care assistance to essential workers, provide financial assistance to families and help childcare providers remain open and implement practices to keep our children safe and healthy. I will continue advocating for funding to help working families and ensure children in the Mountain State have a safe place to learn and grow,” Senator Manchin said.
