Capito, Manchin Announce $70,000 Economic Development Grant for Region IV

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) will award $70,000 to the Region IV Planning and Development Council—which includes Fayette, Nicholas, Greenbrier, Pocahontas, and Webster counties.

“West Virginia’s regional councils are an invaluable resource for our communities,” Senator Capito said. “From infrastructure to regional planning, the expertise of the men and women who work at the councils supports economic and community development across the state. The Region 4 team does a wonderful job for the communities they serve in southern West Virginia, and I will continue to fight for resources like this that support their efforts.”

“These public-private partnerships are the key to business expansion and diversifying our economy. This funding will create jobs and more private investment opportunities that will lead to economic growth in Fayette, Nicholas, Greenbrier, Pocahontas and Webster counties. I’m glad the Region 4 Planning and Development Council is receiving this funding to improve their communities and strengthen our economy,” Senator Manchin said.

“Region 4 Planning & Development Council is extremely thankful for the investment in our region, covering 5 counties and numerous municipalities in east central West Virginia.  The Partnership Planning Award is a necessary component to facilitating technical and administrative assistance to over $100,000,000 in public works projects such as water, wastewater, broadband and other public facilities, and is critical to acquiring grants and loans necessary for economic health and overall quality of life,” said Lesley Taylor, senior project specialist for the Region 4 Planning & Development Council.

This EDA planning investment supports the development and implementation of a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
