CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $8,338,272 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) for prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases.
“The dedicated health care workers in West Virginia step up every day to provide essential services to their residents and communities. This is all the more reason they deserve the resources necessary to do their jobs safely and efficiently,” Senator Capito said. “I’m glad to announce this funding today through HHS, which will provide the support our state health department needs to improve capabilities and prevent infectious diseases in both our larger hospitals and rural health centers. In the meantime, I will continue to advocate for the support West Virginia needs to keep our residents healthy.”
“The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us the importance of prevention and control measures for infectious diseases and any other public health threat West Virginia may face. This funding from HHS is welcome news that will bolster West Virginia’s response to public health crises,” Senator Manchin said. “I will continue fighting for funding to keep West Virginians safe and healthy and to ensure our state is prepared for any threat, including those we may not see coming.”
