CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $124,467 from the U.S. Department Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the Fairmont Morgantown Housing Authority. This funding will provide support to individuals in Monongalia, Marion, Preston, Taylor, Harrison, and Wetzel counties who have been victims of housing discrimination.

“There is no room in West Virginia for discrimination, especially in our housing sector,” Senator Capito said. “West Virginians deserve equal opportunity, and we must continue to appropriate the necessary resources needed to provide the fair housing education and outreach programs our residents need. As we continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic and spend more time at home, housing becomes an even more critical aspect of our lives and wellbeing. I will continue to support fair housing initiatives, and thank the organizations and nonprofits on the ground who are dedicated to protecting victims of housing discrimination.”

“Every West Virginian deserves a roof over their head and a warm place to sleep, no matter their circumstances. This funding will help the Fairmont-Morgantown Housing Authority provide education and outreach for West Virginians in the area to increase awareness about housing discrimination. We must work together as a state to make sure our neighbors have their basic rights, and I will continue to fight for every West Virginian to have a roof over their head,” Senator Manchin said.
