WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $678,344 for the Hatfield-McCoy Regional Recreation Authority through the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA). Funding will expand the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System through the addition of 185 miles of trails in Lincoln, McDowell, and Wyoming counties.
“The tourism industry has taken off in southern West Virginia as thousands of people come to experience our state’s natural beauty,” Senator Capito said. “From lodging and restaurants to creating their own unique West Virginia experiences, local entrepreneurs are launching businesses that cater to these visitors and create opportunity for West Virginians. The Hatfield-McCoy Trail System is a big part of this success story, and its continued growth is a win for the entire state.”
“I am thrilled that the EDA has decided to invest in Southern West Virginia’s economy by expanding the Hatfield-McCoy Trail. In the process of the trail’s expansion, it will also create 75 jobs and attract an expected $5 million in additional investments to McDowell, Wyoming and Lincoln counties,” Senator Manchin said. “The EDA has always been a great partner in the advancement of West Virginia and I look forward to continuing to work with them.”
