CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today announced $41,500 for the Gilmer County Sheriff Office and the Capon Bridge Police Department from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Funding will be used to purchase new police cruisers.

“West Virginia law enforcement drive long and winding roads every day while working to enforce the law and keep our communities safe,” Senator Capito said. “This funding will allow them to replace old vehicles, and help ensure their safety while they bravely protect ours.”

“The law enforcement officers of West Virginia work tirelessly to combat crime and serve the residents of our state. In rural West Virginia this often involves patrolling large, mountainous areas with lower population densities,” Senator Manchin said. “By giving our rural law enforcement the tools to successfully do their job, our communities become safer, and our economy grows stronger.”

Individual awards listed below:

  • $27,500 – Town of Capon Bridge: This funding will allow the Capon Bridge Police Department to purchase a new police interceptor cruiser with all necessary equipment.
  • $14,000 – Gilmer County Commission: This funding will allow the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Department to purchase a new 4X4 cruiser with all necessary equipment.
