WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $249,186 for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (WV DHHR) through the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Small Rural Hospital Improvement Program. Funding will support small rural hospitals in providing affordable care to West Virginians through assisting with the purchase of equipment, software, and training.
“Access to quality, affordable health care is critical for the well-being of West Virginians,” Senator Capito said. “Throughout my time in Congress, I have worked to ensure West Virginians have access to modern and reliable health care facilities no matter where they live. This funding will give West Virginia DHHR additional resources to assist small rural hospitals and ensure that our state’s health care system works for all West Virginians.”
“Small rural hospitals are vital to the health and wellbeing of all West Virginians. I firmly believe that all West Virginians should have access to quality, affordable healthcare, regardless of their location. It is simply unacceptable that many West Virginians living in rural communities have to take long trips to get the care they need,” Senator Manchin said. “As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I am proud to have secured this funding which will be invested in rural hospitals. With this investment, we can make sure that these hospitals have the resources they need to adequately serve the many West Virginians that rely on them for care. I applaud HHS for funding rural hospitals and will continue to work with them to strengthen our healthcare system in West Virginia.”
