CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $120,000 to Community Health Systems in Beckley, West Virginia. This funding will support the facility’s Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education Program, which supports primary care medical and dental residency programs in community settings, while also creating more primary care workers for people and places with the most need.
“Programs like the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education Program are incredibly important to our health care network in West Virginia. Providing specialized education opportunities helps improve the quality of care and expand access to this care at the same time. Increasing the number of trained primary care workers in West Virginia will strengthen the fabric of our localities and will help our residents lead happier, healthier lives. I look forward to the benefits this funding and program will create in Beckley and southern West Virginia,” Senator Capito said.
“Every West Virginian deserves access to reliable, affordable healthcare. But in order to provide quality care to all West Virginians, we must have a robust health workforce. I am pleased HHS is investing in the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education Program, which helps train physicians who will serve in rural and underserved communities across West Virginia. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for funding to support rural healthcare professionals in the Mountain State,” Senator Manchin said.
