WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) announced new funding today to establish two new free Wi-Fi hotspots in downtown Williamson, West Virginia. The $15,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) will go to the Williamson Health & Wellness Center, Inc. for hotspots at the center and at the Mingo County Courthouse.
“Internet connectivity is key to economic growth in our coal communities, and these new Wi-Fi hotspots are a great first step,” Senator Capito said. “This is why I’ve been vocal about the benefits the Appalachian Regional Commission brings to West Virginia and the need to support efforts like this.”
“As West Virginia grows and diversifies its economic industries, it’s important, now more than ever, to be digitally connected to the rest of the state, country, and world,” Senator Manchin said. “These Wi-Fi hotspots are just another crucial step to bringing technologies to West Virginia communities that will propel their economic base into the digital age.”
