WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today announced a total of $125,700 for West Virginia communities from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Funding will be used to purchase vehicles and equipment for law enforcement and exercise equipment for senior citizens.

“These federal investments in West Virginia will help improve efforts to keep our communities safe and enable our seniors to stay active and healthy,” Senator Capito said. “I will continue to fight for programs that support a high quality of life for all West Virginians.”

“These investments in West Virginia’s law enforcement officials are an important part of keeping our communities protected,” Senator Manchin said. “I’m pleased to see these communities receive the resources they need to do their job safely and effectively.”

Individual awards listed below: 

  • $50,000 – City of Bluefield: Funding will go towards the purchase of six new police vehicles for the city’s police department.
  • $31,500 – Hardy County Commission: Funding will go towards the purchase of two Ford Police Interceptor SUVs with all necessary equipment.
  • $24,500 – Summers County Commission: Funding will go towards replacing sheriff’s office vehicles.
  • $13,700 – Hardy County Commission on Aging: Funding will go towards the purchase of exercise equipment to improve preventative care.
  • $6,000 – Town of Iaeger: Funding will go towards the purchase of equipment for the town’s police department, including printers, laptops, cameras, bullet proof vests, armor and upgraded vehicle equipment.
