WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced a grant totaling $877,630 for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources to support maternal and child health services across the state. Funding is provided by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
“Mothers in rural areas often lack access to proper pre-natal care,” Senator Capito said. “In a time when maternal mortality rates are sadly rising in the U.S., this type of investment is more important than ever. As one of the sponsors of the bipartisan Maternal Mortality Accountability Act that President Trump signed into law last year, I’m proud HHS is supporting mothers and their babies in West Virginia.”
“Access to healthcare is essential for all West Virginians and will ensure a brighter future for us and our future generations. This funding will help improve the health of mothers and children in rural areas by increasing access to health services and care. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I am proud to have secured this funding that supports West Virginia mothers and their children and will continue to fight for funding that supports our citizens,” Senator Manchin said.
