CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $38,764 for the Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) Health Education and Research Institute and West Virginia University Research Corporation (WVURC) through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This funding will support nurse anesthetist traineeships to strengthen the career path of nursing students at Marshall University and West Virginia University.
“Our state’s higher education institutions do a fantastic job preparing students for the future and setting them on a trajectory for successful careers,” said Senator Capito. “I’m encouraged to see this support for nursing programs in West Virginia, and the future jobs that it will create. During this difficult and uncertain time in the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen our nurses step up tremendously. It is essential that we prepare our future nurses in West Virginia for the challenges ahead and give them the necessary resources they need to enter the workforce after graduation. I am incredibly grateful for the strength of our nursing community in West Virginia and will continue to support our medical professionals.”
“Nurses are the backbone of the medical community, and West Virginia’s nurses are on the front lines day in and day out during this COVID-19 pandemic,” said Senator Manchin. “Our nurses are working tirelessly to care for our most vulnerable West Virginians in this crisis. That is why it is critical we continue to provide our nurses with all the training and resources they need to do their jobs effectively, and I will continue to advocate for every healthcare professional across the Mountain State to receive the support they need.”
