CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Today, U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $1,887,916 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for Hospital Preparedness Programs in West Virginia. This funding was made available through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) that was signed into law on Friday, March 27.

“Training our medical professionals and giving our hospitals the resources they need to battle COVID-19 is a crucial objective in our recovery efforts. This funding will support our health care entities and workforce, as well as expand telehealth services that help increase the quality of care in our state and keep our communities safe. Preparing our medical institutions for the future is essential to the health and safety of the residents in our state, and I will continue to advocate for this support through my work on the Senate Appropriations Committee,” said Senator Capito.

“Our healthcare workers continue to work around the clock to care for West Virginians affected by COVID-19 and they deserve all of the support we can give them,” Senator Manchin said. “This funding will support the efforts of our healthcare providers to prepare and treat patients with COVID-19. I will continue to fight for West Virginia’s healthcare professionals to ensure they receive their fair share of the funding to continue caring for every West Virginian during this crisis.”
