CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $1,380,345 from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles for improvement projects. The Senators also announced $207,500 to the Public Service Commission of West Virginia to help conduct roving patrols in high-crash corridors, including rural roads in West Virginia.
“The DMV provides West Virginians with many necessary services critical to our everyday lives,” Senator Capito said. “It’s important to provide the support they need to be as effective as possible, ensure access to innovative resources through the DMV, and streamline services preparing our young drivers for safe travel. I am pleased that West Virginia is receiving this funding and look forward to seeing the benefits it will create for our state and residents.”
“I am pleased DOT is investing in West Virginia to make our state safer and more efficient, whether that’s driving on our country roads or waiting in line at the DMV. Funding to prevent crashes is especially important for our rural roads, where drivers are three times more likely to die in a crash than other roads in the state,” Senator Manchin said. “I am committed to supporting West Virginia drivers and improving roads, and my bipartisan infrastructure bill that recently passed the Senate will deliver historic infrastructure investments for roads and bridges for the Mountain State.”
