WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $1,384,000 for West Virginia University (WVU) through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Funding will support research intended to help reduce health disparities among West Virginians and analyze the effectiveness of telehealth programs.
“Health professionals work every day to educate their neighbors about the dangers of certain behaviors, such as smoking, and to promote best practices intended to improve the health of West Virginians,” Senator Capito said. “Academic research is critical to informing these efforts, and the work being done at WVU helps ensure public health officials have the information necessary to make a positive impact in our communities. I will continue to support the world-class researchers at our state’s universities and to advocate for programs that help keep West Virginians healthy.”
